'Watermill on a River' Oil Painting Paul Emile Lecomte (1877 - 1950)
A large and superbly painted Impressionism oil on canvas 'Watermill on a River' by listed French artist Paul Emile Lecomte (1877 - 1950). This serene work depicts a watermill adjacent to a lovely river surrounded by the verdant French countryside. A large tree hangs over the river on the left and is a fine counterpoint to the movement of the water. The artist has beautifully captured the morning light in the soft pink undertones of the sky. Signed lower right and displayed in the original giltwood frame. Canvas: 36"L x 23"H. Provenance, private collection in Paris.
Paul Emile Lecomte was the son and pupil of Paul Lecomte. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a painter to the French Navy Ministry. He exhibited at the Salon de la Societe des Artistes Francais of which he was a member.
