A very fine original oil painting titled 'Light on the Glenn' by listed British artist, Vernon Ward 1905–1985). This large well executed picture depicts lovely sunlight streaming through a cloud shrouded valley in the Scottish Highlands. Springtime trees and shrubs line the river in the foreground as travelers pass by the attractive landscape. It is signed and dated (19)'46, lower right and inscribed verso. It appears to be in the original giltwood swept frame. Sight: 24"L x 20"H

Vernon Ward was a 20th-century English painter and commercial artist noted for his works of landscapes and Edwardian subjects. He lived most of his life in Hampstead in London. He was born in Hampstead, the son of an art dealer, educated at St Joseph's Roman Catholic school in Highgate and trained at the Slade School of Art in London under Henry Tonks, Wilson Steer and Sir Walter Russell. He was the cousin of John Stanton Ward. A member of the New Society of Artists, he was elected an associate of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1926 and exhibited at the Royal Society and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His work is highly sought after.
