A large English landscape oil on canvas by the important listed British artist James Webb 1825-1895. The work depicts a lovely elevated view of the town of Richmond in North Yorkshire on the River Swale. It is a stunning painting with beautiful light and color.. James Webb exhibited in London between 1850 and 1888, notably at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Suffolk Street Gallery. Webb is reputed to have been something of a solitary figure who was particularly fond of painting directly from nature.
