Edwin Frederick Holt 1830-1912, 'Farmyard Friends' Oil Painting

$2,595.00

A lovely oil on canvas by listed British artist Edwin Frederick Holt (1830-1912). It is titled 'Farmyard Friends' and depicts two horses in a farmyard with ducks and chickens. It is signed and dated 1903 and is presented in a period giltwood gallery frame. The work has a Christie's auction provenance, see photo, Christie's, 02 July 2013, Lot 813. Hammer prices for Holt exceed $47,000.

Born in 1830, Holt grew up in Hampstead and spent most of his life in Dunstable. He began his artistic career by studying at the Royal Academy of Art where he won a silver medal for his work at the age of 24. He won recognition as many of his paintings were entered into exhibitions. Seven paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy, twelve works at the British Institution and forty at the Royal Society of Arts.

Art has long been regarded as a strong and safe investment. Ellen Kelleher, a personal finance reporter for The Financial Times wrote an article recommending art particularly in the $500 - $50,000 range as a sound long term investment with an impressive current average annual yield of 9.7%. See 'Hang Your Investments on the Wall' in the Financial Times published in October, 2010.
